To enter Indonesia, you’ll need an Indonesian E visa. We’ll explain what it is and how to get it.

If you want a step-by-step guide, you can watch the instruction video below.

What is an Electronic Visa?

An electronic visa (e-Visa) is an online visa application system introduced by the Indonesian government after the COVID-19 pandemic to simplify obtaining an Indonesian visa for foreign tourists and business travelers.

This system is designed to provide easier access to visas, aiming to enhance the development of tourism and the creative economy in Indonesia.

The e-visa is a digital counterpart to the traditional visa sticker, meaning you NO LONGER longer get a PHYSICAL STAMP on your passport as immigration. Instead, after a verification process (2-3 days), the e-visa is sent directly to you via email.

E Visa Eligibility and Requirements

Foreign citizens from eligible countries can apply for an e-Visa to visit Indonesia for tourism, business meetings, or other purposes.

To apply, you must possess a valid passport with at least six months’ validity and two blank pages.

You must also upload an outbound ticket from Indonesia.

The application process is available online through the Indonesian government’s official website.

Types of E Visa

Indonesia

There are four different types of E visa available for Indonesia:

  • Index B Visa: Visa on Arrival (the one you need for travel)
  • Index C Visa: Single-Entry Visit Visa
  • Index D Visa: Multiple-Entry Visit Visa
  • Index E Visa: Limited Stay Permit ITAS

We’ll focus on the Index B Tourist Visa (and not on a service visa), as this is the relevant one if you are planning a brief visit to Indonesia for purposes such as:

  • Index B1: seeing friends or family (this is the one that is valid for tourism; see the video above that explains the different steps)
  • Index B2: business meeting or purchase of goods
  • Index B3: receiving medical treatments
  • Index B4: dealing with the government

A single-entry short-term tourism (B1) visa is available for a stay of up to 30 days (the possibility of an extension of another 30 days can be added) (see the video above on how to apply for the B1 Indonesia e visa).

The B1 Tourism Indonesia e visa is valid for 90 days. The validity period of your visitor visa is different from the duration of your stay. The stay of a visitor visa holder is 30 days from the arrival date.

How do you get an E Visa for Indonesia?

Foreign nationals can apply for an Indonesian e-visa through the official Indonesian government website, https://molina.imigrasi.go.id/.

You can apply for a visitor visa 14 days before your travel, but you must do so at least two days before your arrival!

You can track the status of your Indonesia e-Visa application online. Once the application is verified, the e-visa is emailed to you.

If you have problems getting the Indonesia e-visa online, you can go to the consular office or the consulate general to get your visa there.

Indonesia E Visa Details and Restrictions

  1. Please note that information on any processed e-VOA cannot be changed, and the fee paid for an e-VOA is not refundable.
  2. The information on your e-VOA must match the information on your valid passport completely; otherwise, your e-VOA will be invalid. In this regard, you must create and complete a new application. If the person recorded in the accompanying section of your passport is traveling with you, it is essential that they also get an e-VOA.
  3. The issuance of an e-VOA does not guarantee entry to the Republic of Indonesia; the decision to enter remains the right of the Immigration Officer at the port of entry.
  4. Holders of e-VOA are not required to queue at the visa payment counter and can proceed directly to the Immigration Counter at the port of entry upon arrival. You must present a valid passport for more than 6 (six) months and return the ticket to the Immigration Officer.
  5. E-VOA shall not be valid for purposes other than tourism, government visits, business meetings, goods purchasing, or transit. Visa applications such as work, study, etc., must be made via the e-VISA application. You can check whether your residence permit has expired or not.
  6. If your stay in Indonesia exceeds 30 (thirty) days, you will be fined for overstaying.
