Location of Breckenridge
The Breckenridge Troll Hike is located in the beautiful town of Breckenridge, Colorado.
You can park on Main Street and enjoy a short walk to the trailhead, or take the Breck Free Ride bus, which drops off passengers within a short walk of the trailhead.

The first thing you should know is that there are two hikes to reach the Breckenridge Troll, Isak Heartstone.

1) The Trollstigen Trail (aka Illinois Creek Trail)

This is the most popular, common and direct route to reach the Breckenridge Troll.
The Trollstigen Trail starts in the southeast corner of the parking lot of the Stephen C. West Ice Arena, also known as the Breckenridge Ice Rink. Options to put into Apple or Google Maps: Stephen C. West Ice Arena, Illinois Gulch Trailhead, or Isak Heartstone.

Once you park in the far back corner of the lot, you’ll see the signs pointing you in the right direction. From the park trailhead, follow the well-marked path through the forest. You will come across a few wooden bridges before reaching Isak Heartstone who now lives by the Illinois Creek trailhead.
Then it’s a quick walk 400 feet through the trees to the famous troll. The Trollstigen Trail is designed as a directional trail to ensure a smooth flow of visitors towards Isak. Along the way, you’ll pass through beautiful ASPEN GROVES and be rewarded with stunning views of Breckenridge Ski Resort and surrounding peaks.

For a slightly longer and more scenic hike, you can start your walk from the Iowa Hill Trailhead.
This route takes you on a loop that includes the Trollstigen Trail and part of the Illinois Gulch Trail.
