Welcome to the world of the Amalfi Coast, an Italian paradise located along the southern edge of Italy.

In this blog post, we’ll tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about the Amalfi Coast Map. This includes: navigating the winding roads, an itinerary, etc.

We’ll even give you some INSIDER tips and TRICKS for exploring hidden gems!

Let’s get started.

Want to know what to expect from the Amalfi Coast? Check the video below!

Let’s start with giving you the answers to the most frequently asked questions about the Amalfi Coast Map.

How far is Amalfi Coast from Naples?

The distance between the two destinations is 40 kilometers or 25 miles. If you’re driving, you can easily access the Amalfi Coast via the A3 highway, and if you prefer public transportation, there are buses and ferries available. To get a better sense of the geography, it’s a good idea to take a look at an Amalfi Coast map before your trip.

Why is Amalfi Coast so expensive?

Well, there are several factors at play. FIRSTLY, the Amalfi Coast is located in the southern part of Italy, which is known for its luxury and upscale lifestyle. SECONDLY, the region is quite small, covering just over 30 miles of coastline. This means that demand for land and accommodations is incredibly high, resulting in sky-high property prices. THIRDLY, the infrastructure required to support tourism in the region can be quite expensive to maintain. While exploring the Amalfi Coast is a worthwhile experience, it’s important to keep in mind the high costs associated with it. Familiarizing yourself with an Amalfi Coast map and planning ahead can help you make the most of your trip without breaking the bank.

Is the Amalfi Coast safe?

The area is generally considered safe for tourists. Of course, as with any destination, it’s important to take necessary precautions. When exploring the charming coastal towns, keep an eye on your belongings and avoid carrying large sums of cash or wearing flashy jewelry. Additionally, some of the winding roads can be treacherous, so make sure to take it slow and use caution when driving. It’s also a good idea to have an Amalfi Coast map on hand to stay oriented and avoid getting lost.

Noteworthy Winetasting company!

For an authentic Italian experience, we recommend the “Wine Class” offered at Vrasa restaurant in the beautiful gardens of Campania. Below, we summarize our experience:

  • Start with a Welcome: You will start with a charming aperitif.
  • Explore Local Wines: Savor a curated selection of five premium Campania wines, each introduced by a sommelier.
  • Gourmet Pairings: Enjoy these wines alongside a selection of local meats, cheeses, and specially selected EVO oil, all chosen to complement the flavors of the wines. The pairings with the wines were amazing!
  • Refreshing Finale: You’ll end with a glass of homemade Limoncello.

Details for booking:

  • Pricing: €90 per person.
  • Schedule: Available daily (except Tuesdays) starting at noon.
  • Location: Directly at Vrasa restaurant.
  • Group Size: Accommodates individuals or groups up to approximately 25 people.
  • Customizable Experience: Opt for a private session in the restaurant or a personalized Wine Class at your private villa or apartment.

How far is Amalfi Coast from Naples Airport?

The distance between Naples Airport and the Amalfi Coast depends on which town you’re visiting. The Amalfi Coast stretches over a 50-kilometer coastal area, and there are several towns to explore, including Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. To get a better idea of distances, it can be helpful to consult an Amalfi Coast map. However, in general, it takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to drive from Naples Airport to Positano, the southernmost town on the coast. From there, the distances between towns are relatively short, so you can easily explore different parts of the coast during your trip.

Where does the Amalfi Coast start and end?

To answer that question, we turn to an Amalfi Coast map (see below). From Salerno in the east to Positano in the west, this 50-kilometer stretch of coastline is a world-renowned destination for its picturesque cliffside towns, turquoise waters, and enchanting views. The Amalfi Coast begins at the base of the Lattari Mountains and runs to the island of Capri.

How to drive the Amalfi Coast?

Driving the Amalfi Coast can be a thrilling experience, but if you’re not well prepared, it can also be quite challenging. Before going on this journey, you must have a good understanding of the area and a reliable Amalfi Coast map. It’s also helpful to familiarize yourself with the local driving customs, such as the narrow roads, sharp turns, and steep hills. Keep in mind that parking can be limited and expensive, so we advise to plan and try to find a spot early in the day.

Understanding the Amalfi Coast Map

As we now deep dive into the Amalfi Coast Map Guide, let’s begin with a geographical overview of this stunning region.

Geographical Overview

Nestled in the heart of southern Italy, the Amalfi Coast stretches for about 50 KILOMETERS along the Sorrentine Peninsula (a piece of land almost fully surrounded by water).

This is one of the few places on earth where azure waters meet lush, verdant cliffs. The coastline is dotted with a series of charming towns and villages, each more captivating than the last.

Amalfi coast cliffs

Some of the MOST ICONIC destinations include:

  • Amalfi, the coast’s namesake town, is steeped in history and culture.
  • Positano, the picture-perfect village that cascades down the hillside like a waterfall of colorful houses.
  • Ravello, a tranquil sanctuary perched high above the sea, offers mesmerizing views.
  • Sorrento, the bustling gateway to the Amalfi Coast, is where you can indulge in authentic Italian cuisine and vibrant nightlife.

With this map (see below) of the Amalfi Coast by your side, we’ll navigate these cute and surreal towns together!

Topographic Features

One of our favorite aspects of the Amalfi Coast is its unique natural features of the area.

There are DRAMATIC CLIFFS  that plunge into the TURQUOISE WATERS of the Mediterranean Sea. Nestled within these cliffs are vibrant, colorful VILLAGES that seem to defy gravity as they cling to the steep terrain.

However, the Amalfi Coast Map also presents some challenges for travelers. With its narrow roads, steep inclines, and winding pathways, navigating this stunning region can be a bit daunting, especially for first-time visitors.

That’s where our trusty Amalfi Coast Map Guide comes in! With a detailed map in hand, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the coast’s unique layout, allowing you to plan your journey with confidence and ease.

Map Resources

To help you navigate the Amalfi Coast, we’ve compiled a list of RELIABLE map resources (both online and in traditional papers).

Check them out below the picture!

Google Maps application

Online Maps: Google Maps & OpenStreetMap

Our go-to online map resource is, without a doubt, Google Maps . It’s user-friendly, accurate, and provides real-time traffic updates—perfect for planning your road trips along the coast. You can also save offline maps, which are a lifesaver in areas with spotty reception.

Another excellent online resource is OpenStreetMap, a community-driven map platform that offers detailed and up-to-date information about local roads, attractions, and more. It’s a fantastic alternative to Google Maps, especially if you’re seeking a more local perspective.

Mobile Application: Maps.me

When it comes to mobile applications, Maps.me is a personal favorite. This FREE APP allows you to download detailed offline maps, so you’ll never be lost even without an internet connection. The app also includes points of interest, hiking trails, and public transportation options, making it a versatile choice for any Amalfi Coast adventure.

Physical Maps: Michelin & Lonely Planet

For traditionalists who prefer a good old-fashioned paper map, we recommend the (yearly-updated) Michelin Italy Road Atlas. This comprehensive ATLAS features detailed maps of the entire country, including the Amalfi Coast, and is perfect for planning scenic drives and discovering lesser-known gems.

Another excellent option is the Lonely Planet Amalfi Coast Road Trips Travel Guide. This handy GUIDEBOOK includes a pull-out map of the Amalfi Coast, along with expert advice on must-see attractions, hidden gems, and insider tips for an unforgettable journey.

Navigating the Map:

Navigating the Amalfi Coast can be easy when you know how to interpret a map. With a few simple TIPS AND TRICKS, you’ll be well on your way to discovering every hidden place this region has to offer.

So, let’s dive in and become map-reading pros together!

Decoding Symbols & Key Landmarks

As you embark on your Amalfi Coast map adventure, one of the first things you’ll want to familiarize yourself with is the various SYMBOLS and key LANDMARKS on your map.

These visual cues will help you identify important points of interest, such as:

  • Historic sites: Look for icons like castles, churches, or monuments to pinpoint locations steeped in history and culture.
  • Natural attractions: Keep an eye out for symbols representing beaches, parks, or viewpoints—perfect spots for soaking in the region’s breathtaking beauty.
  • Transportation hubs: Train stations, bus stops, and ferry terminals are often marked with distinct icons, so you can easily plan your journey from one town to another.

Understanding Transportation Routes

The Amalfi Coast map is known to display a lot of winding roads that hug the cliffs, offering spectacular views at every turn.

Keep an eye out for different COLORED LINES representing various types of roads, such as highways, main roads, and local streets. If you’re not comfortable with super-winding roads, then avoid the local roads and opt for the highways. This will help you plan your route and avoid any unpleasant surprises along the way.

Additionally, take note of PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION options like buses, ferries, and trains. These are often more convenient and budget-friendly ways to explore the coast, allowing you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the mesmerizing scenery.

LONG Distances & Travel Times

One aspect of map reading that’s often overlooked is noting the distances between towns. While the map of the Amalfi Coast may seem compact, travel times can be deceiving due to the region’s topography and winding roads (5km can sometimes even take you 20 minutes).

To avoid unexpected delays, make sure to check the scale on your map and estimate the distances between your destinations. This will help you plan your itinerary more effectively.

Moreover, consider the best modes of transportation for each leg of your trip. For example, a ferry ride from Positano to Amalfi may be quicker and more enjoyable than driving along a narrow coastal road. Or perhaps you want to take a ferry from Naples to Sorrento to start your journey on the Amalfi Coast map?
