Most people will visit Sorrento for 1 or 2 days and then take DAY TRIPS from Sorrento to other popular destinations on the Amalfi Coast, like Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello.

KEEP IN MIND: The town’s layout is hilly, with steep inclines and stairs, so comfortable shoes are a must. However, the reward if you tackle the hills is the breathtaking views of the city, coastline, and sea.

 

INSIDER TIP: The Villa Comunale Park, in particular, has a few benches to sit on and take in the beautiful views of the Bay of Naples and the Sorrento Coastline.

Do you need a car in Sorrento?

NO, you do not need a car in Sorrento. The town is relatively small, and many have a forbidden vehicle sign. A car will only be helpful if you plan to explore the surrounding areas. KEEP IN MIND: Sorrento does not have much parking space, so beware when renting a car.

The high season is from July to August, when high temperatures and tourist crowds peak. It’s too warm in the city, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees and so many tourists that you must queue up in the narrow streets…

 

That is why we recommend from April to June and September to October.

 

Is the sea in Sorrento warm?

 

The sea in Sorrento is warm, with the warmest water temperature in August at 78.8°F (26.0°C). This is perfect for a comfortable tip in the sea.

We stayed at Villa Pane Resort and honestly? It was exactly what we needed. It’s tucked up in the hills above Sorrento, super quiet, surrounded by lemon trees, and run by the kindest family. The shuttle into town was a lifesaver, especially after dinner when we didn’t feel like navigating. It’s not fancy, but it felt personal, like we were being looked after. Book this hotel here.

 

When we were planning, we also looked at Relais San Francesco, it’s similar in that it’s outside the center, but the vibe seemed a bit more modern and peaceful. We almost booked it for the views alone. Book this hotel here.
