In this blog post, we’ll talk about 20 FUN ways to best experience the beach and share some INSIDER TIPS along the way.

Let’s get started!

Before we cover all the fun ways to explore its secluded beaches and its exotic setting, it’s important to provide you with a historical background (it’s short, I promise).

Historical Background

Padang Padang Beach has played an important role in the island’s history.

It used to be a famous SACRED SITE where Balinese Hindu priests performed rituals to appease the gods and seek their blessings.

The beach is believed to be guarded by an ancient SEA SERPENT named Naga Laut. This mythical creature is said to protect the local fishermen and ensure a bountiful catch.

The nearby Pura Uluwatu (Uluwatu Temple), an amazing Hindu temple perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean, further highlights the spiritual importance of the area.

The temple is dedicated to the god of the sea and is one of the nine key temples in Bali. Pilgrims from all over the island flock here to pay their respects and seek protection for their families and communities.

HOLLYWOOD MOVIES

In more recent history, Padang Padang Beach gained international fame when it was featured in the 2006 film adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestselling memoir, “Eat, Pray, Love.

The movie stars Julia Roberts, a woman who embarks on a year-long trip around the world to rediscover herself after a painful divorce, and the breathtaking beauty of Padang Padang Beach serves as a perfect backdrop for her emotional transformation. It’s an amazing feel-good movie!

The success of “Eat, Pray, Love” led to a surge in tourism to Bali, with many visitors eager to explore the locations featured in the film. Padang Padang Beach, in particular, became a popular spot for tourists seeking their own slice of paradise.

Beach Safety

When visiting Padang Padang Beach or any other beach destination, it’s crucial to prioritize safety and respect the environment.

Here are some essential beach safety tips to keep in mind while enjoying your time by the ocean:

  • Be aware of rip currents: Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water that can pull swimmers away from the shore. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, stay calm, float, and swim parallel to the shoreline until you’re out of the current. Then, swim back to shore at an angle.

  • Swim with a buddy: Always swim with a friend or family member, and keep an eye on each other while in the water. In case of an emergency, having someone nearby can be lifesaving.

  • Observe local warning signs and flags: Pay attention to any warning signs or flags posted on the beach, which may indicate potential hazards like strong currents, high surf, or the presence of marine animals.

  • Supervise children closely: Keep a close eye on children while at the beach, both in and out of the water. Teach them about beach safety and potential dangers, such as rip currents and waves, so they can enjoy the beach safely.

  • Know your limits: Be honest with yourself about your swimming abilities and avoid venturing too far from the shore or into deep water if you’re not a strong swimmer.
