It’s located right by Lake Naivasha (you have a view of the lake), 62 miles / 100 km from Nairobi.

Sanctuary Farm & Cottages is a 450-acre private game sanctuary and working farm on the shores of Lake Naivasha, converted by a family into a boutique stay.

Just cottages, a farmhouse, and a CONVERTED WATCHTOWER (in which you can sleep), all surrounded by wildlife that lives freely.

What makes it unique: Sanctuary Farm is the ONLY PLACE ON LAKE NAIVASHA where you can RIDE HORSES alongside giraffes and zebras, eat pizza while watching wildebeest graze past, and sleep in a converted watchtower with 360° views.

KEY INSIGHTS INTO SANCTUARY FARM & COTTAGES:

The camp sits inside the Crater Lake Game Sanctuary, a private conservancy next to Hell’s Gate National Park.

Fisherman’s Camp is one of the most iconic BUDGET STAYS on Lake Naivasha, about 12 miles from Naivasha town on South Lake Road.

KEY INSIGHTS INTO FISHERMAN’S CAMP:

⛺ CAMPGROUND: Two levels to choose from. The lower camp sits right on the lake under a canopy of acacia trees, ideal for tent camping with lake views. The upper camp, across the road on a hillside, has self-catering cottages and dorms with panoramic views of Lake Naivasha and the Aberdare Mountains. An electric fence at the waterfront keeps hippos at a distance while still allowing viewing.

🏡 ACCOMMODATION: Banda cottages (some en-suite, some shared facilities), dormitory rooms, and camping pitches, all at budget rates. Upper camp cottages have verandas overlooking the lake.

WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT CRESCENT CAMP: En-suite safari tents right on the lakeshore, exceptional early morning birding, and hippos that show up most nights.

Crescent Camp fills the gap between basic camping and a fully serviced lodge.

It sits directly on the lakeshore on South Lake Road, about 3 miles / 5 km from the Crescent Island boat launch, and offers a level of comfort and wildlife proximity that neither Fisherman’s Camp nor Carnelley’s can quite match.

What makes it unique: Crescent Camp is the sweet spot on Lake Naivasha. More comfort than the budget camps, more wildlife intimacy than the lodges. The hippos do not come to a viewing platform here. They come to the lakeshore directly in front of your tent.

Laura spent two nights at Crescent Camp on her first Naivasha visit.

On the second night, a hippo grazed within 4 meters of her tent entrance for about 20 minutes.

The staff had briefed her on arrival: don’t go outside, turn off your torch, and you should be fine. The whole thing was electric. No zoom required. No vehicle. Just you and a hippo.
