Welcome to Mexico’s Pacific coast!
In this blog post, we are going to share the BEST THINGS TO DO on the Michoacan coast at our favorite beach in the area – Maruata Beach. Be prepared to plan the best experience!
Overview
ToggleWhere is Maruata Beach located on Mexico’s Pacific Coast?
Playa Maruata sits at 150 kilometers along Michoacan’s Pacific coast. The city is around 880 km from Mexico City (8 hours by car on the highway) and approximately 170 km from Lázaro Cárdenas, where most tourists come from when visiting the most beautiful beach.
Playa Maruata Overview
Playa Maruata is an amazing beach in an ISOLATED FISHING VILLAGE in Maruata, Mexico. Its wide strip of golden sandy and clear water makes it a very popular place to swim, sunbathe or enjoy the beach.
Playa Maruata is actually composed of three beaches, the eastern beach, the middle beach and the western beach.
Eastern Beach is considered the longest at 3 kilometres, with calm waves and beautiful clear turquoise waters. This is an ideal place for families with children, novice swimmers, and those seeking serenity.
Sunbathe on the sand along the expansive shores, build sandcastles with the little ones, or simply float on the water’s surface, lulled by the rhythm of the waves.
Insider Tip: Pack a picnic and claim a spot under the shade of palm trees for a lovely beachside lunch. You might even be the person lucky enough to spot playful dolphins in the distance, a common sight in the area!
Craving a dose of adrenaline? Middle Beach has dramatic formations of rocks such as the famous Dedo de Dios rocks, hidden caves, and powerful blowholes that spout like marine geysers. This is a place for travelers that are experienced swimmers and snorkelers. Beware of the dangerous currents here!
Lastly, Western Beach also known as Playa de los Muertos, as the name suggests “Beach of the Dead” is the most dangerous beach out of the three beaches because the tide can get rough and there is limited lifeguard presence due to it being in a secluded area.
We recommend spending your time on the eastern side if you want to spend the day relaxing and sunbathing without worry.
