Let’s jump in!

Things To Do

Picture yourself standing at the southernmost tip of Isla Mujeres.

You’ve arrived at Punta Sur, a place of great beauty, where the sun paints the sky with different shades of orange and pink every morning.

But what’s next? Why should you come here?

Sculpture Park

Sculpture Park Punta Sur

This is one of the MOST UNIQUE experiences in Punta Sur.

It’s not just a park; it’s an outdoor art gallery with sculptures created by artists from all over the world. The statues are a modern representation of the Mayans.

And the best part?

Each statue has a QR code next to it! So, you are not only admiring these statues with the backdrop of the Caribbean sea BUT also learning about the Mayan Civilisation.

Mayan Ruins

Mayan Ruins Punta Sur Isla Mujeres

At the southernmost tip of the island, you’ll find the ruins of the Temple Ixchel, named after the Mayan goddess of the moon, fertility, and happiness.

These ruins aren’t the biggest in size but their history are VERY RICH.

Walking around the ruins are a VISUAL TREAT, they are located at the highest elevation on the island. The views are AMAZING of the Caribbean Sea.

In case you might be asking yourself if it is really worth the visit…

The ruins are very accessible and if you are doing a tour of the island, it is a great stop to add to your route.

On top of that, it ONLY COSTS 30 PESOS (1,80$).

Punta Sur Cliffs

Punta Sur Cliffs

Imagine this:

You are standing at the edge 20 meters above sea level and you feel the force of the sea clash.

Visitors can explore the cliffs by walking through the paths. Don’t worry the paths are very safe as they are fenced with rope.

Punta Sur Isla Mujeres Cliffs are also home to the famous “Cliff of the Dawn”. This is the easternmost point in Mexico!

Wildlife in Punta Sur Isla Mujeres

Punta Sur Iguanas

Picture this: You are walking around in nature, admiring the landscapes and hearing the sea clash with the cliffs. Suddenly, you spot a flash of movement out of the corner of your eye.

What could it be? A bird taking flight from a tree? Or perhaps, a creature sprinting to the rocks?

First, let’s talk about the famous local inhabitant.

Iguanas: These lizards are the rockstars of the jungle. They can grow up to 5 feet long and are covered in scales that come in a rainbow of colors. They love to climb trees and bask in the sun, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch them doing some air guitar!

Don’t forget to also look up and look down! Punta Sur has amazing widelife, so keep your eyes peeled.

Here are some fascinating creatures you could encounter:

  • Sea turtles: These guys are like the beach bums of Punta Sur Isla Mujeres. They love to hang out on the sand, sunbathe, and nest their eggs on the warm, sandy beaches. So, if you see a turtle with shades on, you know they’re really chill!

  • Pelicans: These birds are like the divas of Punta Sur Isla Mujeres. With their massive beaks and flashy feathers, they command attention wherever they go. They’re often seen diving into the water to catch fish, and if you’re lucky, you might even witness them doing a synchronized swimming routine!

  • Dolphins: These friendly creatures are like the party animals of the sea. They love to swim and play in the crystal-clear waters of Punta Sur Isla Mujeres, and they’re always up for a game of catch or a friendly race. So, if you see a dolphin with a beach ball, you know it’s time to join the party!

Fun fact: Punta Sur Isla Mujeres is home to over 130 species of birds.
